Inside Iran
Thursday, August 28, 7:30pm
Mark Edward Harris Inside Iran
The Islamic Republic of Iran is at the center of world attention, yet it remains largely unknown to the West. Award-winning photographer Mark Edward Harris traveled throughout Iran to produce the first contemporary photographic book on a place seldom seen or understood by outsiders. His images of daily life offer a fascinating view of a society of juxtapositions – ancient and modern, commercial and spiritual, serene and intense, political and personal. Inside Iran is a crucial look at a country whose future is likely to influence our own. Harris will offer a narrated presentation of images from the book. The evening program will be held in the museum courtyard; please dress accordingly.

Cicada Forest
Saturday, September 20, 1:00pm
Mariko Kitakubo Cicada Forest
Japanese poet and performance artist Mariko Kitakubo returns to the U.S. with her new book Cicada Forest. Ms. Kitakubo’s performance provides a rare opportunity to hear a bilingual Japanese-English poetry recitation of tanka (Japan’s oldest and most popular poetry form.) Her moving recitation will include a translation in English by tanka and haiku poet Linda Galloway. Rick and Kath Abela Wilson will provide musical accompaniment with Japanese instruments. The program is co-sponsored by The Southern California Haiku Study Group and will be held in the museum’s Japanese Gallery. Reservations strongly recommended as space is limited; please call ext. 20.
  New Lecture Series for Members

Pacific Asia Museum is pleased to inaugurate a free lecture series exclusively for museum members. This new program, made possible by a gift from Dr. George W. Housner in honor of David Kamansky, will feature talks by guest scholars and members of the museum’s curatorial staff that provide a deeper examination of the themes and objects in our exhibitions and collections. For reservations, please call ext. 37.
