Friends Travel Program
Update
The Friends Travel program has had a very successful year.
We recently
visited The Huntington Library Art Collections and Botanical
Gardens
for a wonderful tour of the Japanese Garden. We also visited
the Xiem Clay
Center in Pasadena for a tour of Yakimono: A Celebration of
Japanese
American Ceramic Art and hands-on clay workshop.
The Friends Travel program offers six to twelve travel programs
and lectures
per year, and is available to members at the $200 level and
above. To upgrade
to the Friend Level, please contact the Membership Department
at ext. 37.
Summer Interns
This summer Pacific Asia Museum was fortunate to have three
interns provided by the Getty Foundation. Kriselle Lim Santos,
Lauren Miyamoto and Ashley Fenderson spent ten weeks learning
about museum operations from behind the scenes. Kriselle
worked in the Education Department while Lauren and Ashley
assisted in Collections. All three interns spent part of
their time initiating the production of a new video about
the museum designed to attract more visitors.
Getty multicultural internships are available to undergraduate
students from groups underrepresented in museums. The program
provides a wonderful introduction to non-profit careers with
field trips to local arts institutions and participation in
focused discussion groups. We thank the Getty for providing this
unique opportunity to the interns and the museum.

Object Conservation
Collectors’ Circle member Cathleen Godzik
inspects the museum’s recently conserved
masterpiece Eagle in a Snowstorm by
Hokusai. The restoration was funded by
Ms. Godzik in memory of her father,
Francis J. Godzik and has been restored
to its original condition. The work was
donated to the museum by Marilyn
and George Brumder and is one of the
highlights of the Japanese collection.
The Collectors’ Circle has been instrumental in not only
building the collection
but restoring key works of art. For more information on how to
join the
Collectors’ Circle, please call ext. 37.
New Museum Staff
We are pleased to welcome David Spiro to the Pacific Asia
Museum staff as Director of Development. Coming to the
museum from the Pasadena Playhouse, David also has
worked at the Armory Center for the Arts where he served
as Director of Development for fourteen years.
Museum Associates
Georgianna Bray Erskine has been elected as the new
President of the Associates to
succeed Maria Low Way who served from 2003 to 2005. Executive
Director, Joan Marshall stated that “The staff loved working with Maria because of
her energy and enthusiasm for the museum and are looking
forward to welcoming Georgie as the new President.”
The Associates is the museum’s highest membership category
and provides important
support for its many activities. Georgie said “I look forward
to the Associates playing
an even more prominent role at the museum – this is an exciting
time to be involved
and we hope to grow the membership substantially.” For more
information on how to
become an Associate, please call ext. 37.
