The Carp
The Carp As lovers of Asian culture know, there are no baby dragons. Dragons evolve from exceptional carp. To become a dragon a carp must swim the raging waters, crest the sprays of white waters and ascend the rapids. We also know that carp must excel in their examinations to pass through the Dragon Gate. The process through which a carp becomes a dragon is described by the phrase Li hua lung. Thanks to the efforts of Robert McCoy, renowned architect and player in the museum’s Mah Jongg club, the museum is introducing five new baby dragons to the courtyard pond. We need your help in naming these magnificent carp, our beautiful, new living jewels. Please drop us a note or call the front desk. Our carp need names to begin their new journeys. Watch for news and progress reports in upcoming Newsletters!

Our first three fish:

  • A large Sandan Kohaku male carp between 20 to 35 years.
  • A Kin Matsuba Ogon (Harimono) “dragon carp” female about 25 years old.
  • A large Hikarimono-Orenjii ogon male approximately 35 to 40 years.
